The Urus is the second off roader that Lamborghini have made with the other being the LM002 in the 80’s. It is actually the only SUV that has been made by a sports car brand that produces such exotic cars – although that is not to say that others will not follow suit. The styling of the car looks very angry as it is so angular and looks like more of a battle vehicle than a family car.
Lamborghini have worked hard on the Urus because they want it to be a great selling model in China where there is a great demand for SUV’s at the moment. It should also appeal to those who already like buying the expensive brand such as the Saudi rich crowd. This is therefore an extravagant vehicle.
It will be using the VW group’s longitudinal platform. This is the one that is used by most of the Audi passenger vehicles and is expected to also be used for other future vehicles such as the Porsche cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and the Audi Q7. It will have a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 derived by Audi and will be likely to also have a hybrid option and a V8 diesel as well.
It is likely that it will be in direct competition with the Land Rover Range Rover supercharged, MXW X6 M, Porsche cayenne turbo, Bentley SUV and the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG.
It is possible of course, that the Chinese market may go soft if they have another revolution. This could mean that they will not have such a large demand for the vehicle. They will also have to work hard to get their parts delivered more quickly because a family car cannot be off the road or in a bad state of repair for long and when three months tended to be the waiting time for replacements, then this will no longer be acceptable.
It is expected that it will arrive in 2016 and will be priced between $150,000 and $200,000.
