A Lotus Exige that has been massively modified has been seen at the Nurburgring. The spy shooters actually felt that it was a Renault alpine A110-50 chassis that was being tested by Ohlins which is a Swedish suspension company. There was a selection of other cars with it including the Renault Clio and Megane RS. It does imply that Renault really do want to make the Alpine a reality but will need help to cover the costs.
Last year they were working with Caterham to get it on track and it seems like this may be a four cylinder turbocharged with 1.6 litres which could give around 270 horsepower.
It has been reported in the past that Renault were working together with Lotus and Infiniti to put together a petrol and electric hybrid and the Renault version of this could be the Alpine. This would mean that Lotus would built the production version of all three of the cars, but this is just a guess. There are no clues yet as to what might happen and so we will just have to wait for more spy shots or official information from the companies involved.
