The Escalade is the fourth generation of the default flagship Cadillac. It has a lot of the virtures of the old-school car in that it is hige and has no compromise. It is the only Cadillac with a V-8 engine apart from the CTS-V. It will also have a much improved interior with better design and quality which will stand it apart from the other similar Chevrolet and CMC models.
The current escalade is an easy sale according to Cadillac salesmen because it still has charisma and space. People tended to turn away from the Lincoln Navigator and Hummer H2 in favour of it. It has had no marketing and still managed to sell more than 10,000 this year and this is even more than the amount of Porsche Cayennes sold.
The new car will have the K2XX platform which is the newest from GM and will also be used on the GMX Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. GM could have switched it on to a unibody platform as this is a core part of the Escalade. Many people will want th car for towing and so it will have a long and extra-long option as well as a short bed.
It will have a 6.2 litre V8 which will be directly injected and give 420 horsepower with 450 lb/ft torque. It could even have an eight speed automatic transmissionalthough the Sierra and Silverado has six speed for their first year so this may follow that pattern. There have also been some rumours that there will be the new 420hp twin turbo V6 in the model, but this could be unlikely.
The car will compete with the Infiniti QX80, GMC Yukon Denali and Mercedes-Benz GL class. It is expected that it will debut in the autumn but not a show, It could start being sold early next year and will cost from $65,000.
