It is already known that Land rover is realigning its products. It has been said that there will be three families that all products will fit in to and they will be Leisure, Dual purpose or Luxury. The leisure section will have the Discovery models, the Dual Purpose will be the next generation Defender models and the Luxury cars will be the Range Rovers. This theory has now been backed up a bit now that the LR2 has been seen testing, although until a formal announcement is made, nothing can be taken for granted.
This vehicle is the Freelander’s replacement and is known to Land Rover engineers as L550 and is essentially a baby Discovery. This is because the Freelander’s successor is going to be more like a Discovery or LR4 with regards to styling and orientation.
There have been rumours that the L550 will be using the Evoque platform and will have five and seven seat options. It is expected that Jaguar Land Rover engines will be used in the LR2. At the moment though only the outside of the car can be seen in the spy shots that were taken. We will have to wait for official news as to what will be under the bonnet.
