Nurburgring Sighting of the Mini Clubman Cooper S (2014)

The Mini Clubman is the Mini with an estate body and it is the next model that is expected to be seen on the market. The Mini looks quite different to the outgoing model with a longer and lower design and an extra door as well. It also has a look which is unique to it meaning that it stands out form other Minis. The one spotted was the Clubman Cooper S which is defined byu its extra bumper air intakes on the front and its bonnet scoop. The concept car was revealed in Geneva in 2014 and this gave away what the new model would be like. It has six doors with split rear doors but without the ‘Clubdoor’ that opened straight in to the traffic in right hand drive versions and so was not practical especially as it could not be opened independently of the drivers door. Instead there are four conventional doors for passengers. The model has an extra 160mm width and 260mm length which means that it is more practical as a family car meaning that it can accommodate five people rather than the current mini hatch which is cramped in the back and therefore really only suitable for four. The interior looks like it will be the same as the Mini Clubman with a standard Mini MK3 dashboard. However, it will look different on the outside. The designer, Anders warming has said that he wants it to have its own identity. This can be seen from the stretched rear lights and horizontal styling lines. It is quite different from the usual mini style and the lights that will be used were seen on the concept car. It is expected that the engine range will be the same as in the three door version. This will mean that there will be a 1.5 litre turbo engine in the Clubman One with the Clubman cooper having a tuned version taking it up to 136bhp. The Cooper S, like the one spotted will have a 2.0 litre engine capable of almost 200bhp and there will also be a John cooper Works version that will be capable of 220bhp. There will also be a six speed manual gearbox fitted as standard which will have rev-matching that works automaticallyw hen downshifting. There will also be the option of an automatic with paddle shifters. There is a more practical Mini on the cards as well, in case this version is not for you. There is a five door hatchback on the horizon, the first time for Mini. The spy shots have shown that it will be larger than the three door but not quite a five door supermini. It could be the solution for those that want a retro style that does not have the shape of a hearse.
