There seem to be big plans for the next Scirocco making it much sportier so that it is very different to the Golf and it may even have an RS flagship model.
There are two proposals for the car, with the sports car going against a car more like a Golf coupe which could be very much too similar to the three door Golf.
This means that the Scirocco is certainly the more exciting option and one that most people would like to see appear. It is a two door car with four seats and a tailgate that is very pronounced. However, there has been talk that the look of the car might change with the shooting brake appearance perhaps being changed. This would mean that the roofline would be shorter so that it looks more like a traditional coupe and a lower lip on the boot making it easier to load with the front overhang being shorter as well.
The new Scirocco will be on the MQB architecture which is new for Golf. It is stiffer but lighter and is flexible with regards to the components set.
The engine will change from what is on the current model. At the moment the base is a 1.4 TSI capable of 123bhp. The MK4 entry level car also keeps this engine with the next model up having a 1.8 litre 178bhp engine.
It is expected that there will be two 2.0 litre diesel options with 148 and 182bhp. The dual clutch will be optional and will have seven forward ratios on all engines.
It is not known when the new car will appear and it may not be soon as the current car has only very recently had a face lift with more efficient engines and more driver assistance systems. A VW official told CAR that there are three years after the face lift before the replacement is due to come out and so this means that we will be looking at 2017 before all will be revealed. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!
