Mercedes-Benz is now well known for creating new niches and concepts such as their sports tourers B-Class and first generation A-class. They have managed to keep surprising their customers over the past 15 years and so it is expected that they will continue to do so. It was just this week when they showed just a select group of people in Dubai a G-wagon derivative.
It is based on the G63 AMG 6×6 but it has a stretched frame which will allow for 6 wheels and a ickup bed to fit on it. These will be driven by the 5.5 litre V8 which is also on the G63 AMG. This is a more boring model and costs $135,205 and so it is expected that this 6×6 will be more. It has can generate 560lb-ft of torque which is split with 40% in the middle axle and the 30% on the front and rear and 544 horsepower which is pretty impressive. It is heavy but still can ggo from 0-60mpg in just 7 seconds according to AMG. It can also reach speeds of over 100mph. It is even possible to change the tyre pressure using an air compressor that is built in so adjustments can easily be made to allow for changes in terrain.
The concept is based on a G-wagon that was made for the armed forces of Australia, but developed in to a more luxurious vehicle. There is carbon fibre inside to try to reduce the weight of the cumbersome vehicle. The door trim and seats have diamond quilted leather on them which certainly add a feel of comfort.
The car will be longer, taller and wider that a Chevrolet Suburban and it will have off road tyres. There will be 18 inches of ground clearance and three feet of fording depth. It should therefore be able to manage on any terrain as long as it is large enough to hold the size of the car,
There are two examples of this car that have been built. There is a white and matte grey, these are concept cars at the moment but it is expected that there will be a series of them eventually. The price has been estimated as no less than $300,000.It would have been nicer has they put the G65 ANG engine it is with its 6.0 litre V12 but despite this, it is still an exciting and original vehicle.
