Geneva: 2013 Mercedes Benz A-Class Spy Photos

There is a brand new Mercedes Benz A-Class, and it has been captured in a 5-door hatchback variety while it was undergoing normal winter testing. There was hardly any camouflage cover it up, and this silver test car is a real beauty. There was just a little black tape hiding the head and taillights too. There was some tape around the side character lines that extended along the doors too. There is a kind of upright grille with a big three-pointed Mercedes-Benz star in the center front fascia too. There is a rear-mounted spoiler on the roof, and it has some pretty thick C-pillar. It is supposed to compete with the BMW 1-Series that is coming out, and the Audi A3 is also its competition. This is a miniature Mercedes that will eventually sport a sedan, sport-wagon, and crossover version.
This is part of the mini Mercedes-Benz family tree. The sedan and wagon versions have already been spotted, and they are supposed to be called the CLC. They might look like that once they come out in 2013. It will be arriving on the MFA platform, and it will be using flexible chassis that have a wide range of body styles and powertrains. If one just looks at the U.S. models, they are expected to be turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liater and 4-cylinder that work with about 200 bhp. There is also a 7-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission too, and the performance should be really stark, and it should be kept in line with Mercedes’ upmarket image. There is probably going to be a 2.2-liter diesel engine and hybrid model that are going to come out too. There might even be an electric model.

What’s not so clear really is whether the A-Class will have a 5-door body style that will eventually come out to the USA. Audi has finally decided to bring the new A3 sedan to the U.S. the 3-door and 5-door varieties are going to stay in Europe. Mercedes-Benz could focus on high-volume models like the sedan and small crossover. More details should come out during the upcoming New York Auto Show when April comes  around, and the new A-Class-based 2013 CLC sedan should be coming out too from that.
