Ford is stepping up its rival to the Suzuki Swift Sport by making a Fiesta Zetec S that will have an increase in power. This will gap the space in the market between its regular vehicles and the ST line.
It will see 138bhp due to a 1.0 litre three cylinder engine that has been uprated with Ecoboost. This is a significant increase from the current 123bhp and so it will make it maore ven to the sporty superminis on the market such as the Renaultsport Twingo 133 and the Suzuki Swift Sport. It will look like that current car and so will still have good looks but for less money.
It is expected that the price will not go much above the current £15k. The ST is more at £16,995 but in its market, that is still cheap and it has 179 bhp which is a big jump compared to the S. The insurance will also be cheaper due the group that it will sit in, which could be a selling point as well.
However, it is too soon to start getting hopes up as it is still going through the testing stages and they need to guarantee that they will be able to sell enough to make it worth making them. The top executives will need to be convinced that it will sell at least 4000 a year in Europe to make it worth the investment. It is currently being developed on UK roads around the Dunton Technical Centre.
