Ford has been testing their new Mustang and some spy shots have been taken of it. The car is due to be sold in Europe as well as the US and so will need to be suitable for both markets. The car is due to go on sale in Europe in 2014 and it will come with right hand drive, four cylinder engine and independent rear suspension. This means that it will appeal to the more sophisticated taste and be in line with European legislations for emissions.
The European car will be similar to the American version maintaining its rear drive with four seats. However it will have an EcoBoost engine to replace the V8 which is just too thirsty. There will be a 2.3 litre four pot engine for the staple and then a 350bhp one which will be in the more powerful Ford focus RS. There will be a better version of the US EcoBoost V6 in the higher range vehicles which is a bi-turbo 3.5 litre which will produce 360bhp.
It is possible that there will also be GT500 model with a V8 but it is a niche market. The current GT500 offers 650 bhp and so it is good that the new model has an independent rear suspension rather than the live axle set up.
It is likely that this new Mustang will be competing with the Audi A5, BMW 4-series and Nissan 370Z and so will be priced accordingly. This could therefore be around £26k+ with the GT500 a significantly higher £58k which is near to the BMW M4 and Audi RS5 level.
