There are three version of the Chevrolet Cruze Sedan around at the moment. There is a 2015 model with a face lift for the US market, as well as two 2016 next generation vehicles one for the US market and one for the Chinese market. The US market 2016 model is the one that has been spied recently and with very little disguise too.
The face looks pretty similar to the one headed for the Chinese market but there are some subtle differences which match it up to the current US line up. The grille looks rather like that on the Sonic and matches up to the rear of the car as well, better than the Chinese front does. The body style is tidy and bland like those shown in Beijing. The cars do seem to have a low level of trim as they do not have HID head lights or LED running lights which were seen on the Chinese as well as the Cruze models that were seen last month. It is expected that these will appear on the higher end models of the cars.
The Cruze is a big seller in the American market as well as all over the world and so that means that the pressure is on to get the design just right. It looks like, from the designs of the front, that they are specifically tailoring the look to the specific markets that the car will be placed in. It is expected that there will not be many more versions of the nose but it is good that they are not just opting for the same look across all of their vehciles,
The platform will be the GM’s delta II which is flexible and is used for many of the GMs vehciles.
It is expected that some of the engine options from the current models will carry across to the new one. The 2.0 litre turbo diesel is going to continue to give them a good hold of the diesel market in the US. However, the rest are likely to be smaller, especially based on the fact that the Chinese car shown in Beijing has a 1.4 litre turbo engine with four cylinders as well as a 1.5 litre four which is naturally aspirated. It is expected that there will be a six speed manual and automatic and maybe even a seven speed dual clutch automatic as well.
The car will have a selection of other vehicles competing with it in this market. There will be the Volkswagen Jetta, Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic and Dodge Dart.
It is expected that the Chevrolet Cruze will debut at the Los Angeles auto show or the Detroit Auto Show so either in the Autumn or next January. It is expected that the price will be the same as the current model which starts at less than $20k.
