The McLaren Spyder is a beautiful car, and it is coming out in 2014. When it first comes out, it will have some competition in the way of Ferrari, and a few other cars will also compete with it. It came out just a year ago, and this great 12C coupe has already overcome the Ferrari fixed-roof 458 in a contrast test even though it didn’t have the heart and soul. A roadster type is going to come out too.
What is the significance of this fact? What does it really mean?
Manufacturers that make low volumes of cars still need to keep their brands in peoples’ minds, and they have to do this to make sure they make profits. By delivering a lot of pricier models, they are able to do this easily. The MP4-12C Spyder will probably be one of the nicest cars with no roofs in the whole universe. The MP4-12C roadster will also utilize a forged-aluminum suspension mount, some carbon-ceramic brakes, and a good hydraulic damper system. You can get a lot of information on the chassis technologies too if you go here and read about it online. Stylewise, the car should look like the coupe once the roof is up on it, but the roadster will have much bigger buttresses in the back of the driver and passenger once the roof is down.
It will have a M838T twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8 powertrain, and it is in the second spot on the highest-output engines list in the year of 2012. That is a pretty high honor. It is a pretty significant fact. It should move over nicely to the Spyder. It will have 583 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. There will also be a dual-clutch box and a seamless shift gearbox. If you put a little touch onto the shift paddle, the transmission will either go up or down. In an amazing feat, the coupe when from 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds. That is extremely fast. McLaren says that the car can go up to 205mph. The Roadster’s numbers won’t deviate by much at all either.
The McLaren will have some tough competition from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Aston Martin.
The arrival time and price should be around $231,400, and the delivery should start in about 2012.
The 12C coupe will be built on a carbon-fiber monocell, and it will be very stiff, but it might need some kind of help because it doesn’t have a roof. The weight may shoot up because of all the added stuff though. The doors have a great motion that moves like insect wings. You can get out of the car with a lot flourish like all exotic car owners really can.
