The Audi A3 2013 Saloon is in the final stages of development. It is a sportslimosine and is expected to be on the forecourts in the UK by the end of the year.
In 2011 there was a concept car shown at Geneva and it was four door version with lines that looked dynamic and a back with a notchbook style. It is likely to be very similar to this model. It will have the same platform as the three and five door sportback cars and will be longer and therefore have more boot space. It will also have a smarter interior design. These details are expected to force the price above the sportsback £19,825 and the entry level three door at £19,205.
There will be the same engines as in the A3 which will be a choice of 1.4 and 1.8 litre petrol, 1.6 turbo diesel and 2.0 TDI. There will also be two new variants an improved turbo diesel as well as a 1.4 litre which will switch off two cylinders when it can to save fuel. It is expected that the A3 saloon will get the engine with cylinder deactivation capabilities that is currently on the S3 hot hatch. This will be able to go from 0-62 in 5.1 seconds. It is possible that there may be a RS3 sportslimosine which will have 380bhp with Quattro four wheel drive as many of the other models also have this variation.
It has been questioned as to whether the four door car will sell well in Europe. In the UK it is rare to see a small saloon, although in Italy and Spain they are seen more. Audi GB are going to have a go at selling the sportslimosine. It is hoped that because the UK is never short of customers for the Audi, that this car will be popular too, despite the fact that the style has been criticised for looking like a pensioner’s vehicle. It is expected that sales will be biggest in USA and China where the demand for four door saloons is huge at the moment.
