This car is a continuance of the amazingly low-selling Phateon. It will still be made at the factory in Dresden, Germany, and it will combine powertrains and technology with stuff from the Audi and Bentley set.
This car is important because it shows the lengths that the VW brand is trying to go to. As previously, the Phateon will try to shift the VW upmarket into luxury car spheres where BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes are.
The architecture that is often set aside for Audis will underlie the Phateon. It will have a vertically mounted engine and four-wheel drive, and those will be its main hallmarks. It will have the use of aluminum throughout.
It will have a great powertrain that is a 3.5-liter V-6 with 345 horsepower. Some of the models will be imbued with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that is combined with the Continental range and Audi S8. Some might even be integrated with a W-12.
There will be some competition from Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz.
It would be easy to see what could go wrong, and it could be so high above the rest of the VW set, that the Phateon may start to be a puzzling picture to shoppers.
It is expected to come out in the latter half of 2013, and it will be priced at around $65,000.
