It seems that Masarati will have something to offer the year after it reveals its supercar in an entry level sports car. In 2015 they also has a Gran Turismo planned, a lighter and more powerful one than the current model.
It was thought that there was a possibility that the car might be mid engine, perhaps like a Ferrari 458, but this is not going to be the case, It was considered that the 3.0 litre bi-turbo V6 could be an option if put in to an Alfa Romeo 4C chassis but this turned out to be too expensive and lairy.
So they have not decided to make a better 4C partly because of the cost of the carbon tub as well as the difficulty with weight and power of the V6 twin turbo making it difficult to balance the chassis. There were concerns at Masarati that it might not suit traditional Masarati customers being as it would be hard core and tail happy that they were not used to. An insider at the company stated that they could get it to have fairly good road manners but it would that it would be raw and sharp edged.
There were estimated made that a few thousand 2C’s could be sold each year but this low amount would mean that the cost would be very high at £100,000 and this could means it would be very close to their Gran Turismo price.
Therefore Msarati have decided to go for a 2 plus 2 seater car with a front engine. It will be compact than the Gran Turismo and it will just have V6 engines but it may have a manual gearbox and rear drive. It would be around £75,000-£100,000 which would mean that it would be competing with the Porsche 911 as well as Audi R8 and Jaguar F Type.
It will have an aluminium structure that will be lightweight and there will be a hard top version released first, followed by a soft top one a year later.
The speed of the 911 will depend on the power level option that the buyer decides to choose. There will be 300bhp available in the base car but the GTS model will have 400bhp and there will be an MC Stradale version that will get up to 450bhp.
The car will replace the current Gran Turismo in 2015. It will sare the Ghibli and Quattroporte saloons underpinnings and it will therefore get its kerb weight down from 1955kg to 1850kg.
It has been reported from some sources that it will just have fronmt powered V8 engines and no rear mounted gearbox. There will be a 4.0 litre bi-turbo unit designed by Ferrari and it will get 460bhp in the F=Gran Turismo whereas the GTS will get 530bhp and the Mc Stadale 600bhp which will put it at the top of the range. They will also ghave a lot more torque than usually associated with this car.
