There have been suspicions that Audi will be reviving its electric sports car as the R8 E-Tron has been spotted in testing. However, in the past Audi has said that the car will not be made and they have recently stated again that this test model is just being used to look at the powertrain.
They have released an official statement by way of an email to Autoguide.com. In which the corporate communications manager, Brad Stertz explained that the testing of these cars are helping with future electric technology development. He even implied that the specific E-Tron testing was helping with the A3 PHEV development which will be available in the near future.
In January it was explained that the R8 E-Tron may be produced in limited amounts but there was still not a firm decision. Stertz confirmed that there may be a few cars available for demos but not for production.
The E-Tron pictures were taken in cold weather conditions, whereas there were some taken in hot weather last week, so they obviously want to see how the car copes in different extremes of temperature.
