The very first spy shot pictures have been taken of the inside of the Land Rover discovery. It has been confirmed by land Rover that the Discovery Sport is the official name for the vehicle which will replace the Freelander next year.
The styling very much looks like that used on the Range Rover which is typical of all new Land Rover vehicles. The physical dials look the same as the ones inside the Range Rover Evoque having a central navigation which has two clock faces either side with infotainment and vehicle data displays.
The touchscreen is bigger than the one in the Freelander. It has buttons around the edge which will control the camera and infotainment system. The air vents are now under the screen rather than either side.
There is a manual gearbox on the car but the spy photographers have said that they have seen a rotary gear selector in testing as well.
It is known that the new discovery sport will be a seven seater as there will be more cabin space compared to the outgoing Freelander. The car is based on the Evoques steel platform but it is stiffer and lighter. There will be aluminium underpinning and the flagship Discovery 5 which was previewed at the 2014 New York Motor Show.
There will be four cylinder engines but it is unlikely that the new Jaguar XE Ingenium power plants will be ready in time. It is much more likely that they will come in when the Jaguar sports saloon comes to the market in April 2015.
