The current BMW X1 has been pictured with the new model while testing.
It was in Northern Europe where the models were pictures and the new model was well camouflaged. However, by comparing the two, it can be seen that the new model is larger. It also shows that the tailgate will be more upright which means that there will be more room to fit luggage.
The details are pretty much all hidden but it does look like the bumper might be sportier in design and the grille could be better integrated too. There is a spoiler on the tailgate and a dual exhaust system as well as cladding to the body that is plastic.
The specifications has not been given out by BMW but there is a lot of guesswork about the fact that it is expected to be on the UKL platform. This is the same one that is under the BMW 2-series Active Tourer as well as the Mini Cooper. If this is used then it is likely that front-wheel drive will be standard with the option of all-wheel drive.
It is expected that engines will carry over from the 2-series Active Tourer. If this is the case it will mean that there would be three petrol options with a 1.5 litre three cylinder and two 2.0 litre four cylinders with different horsepower and torque values. There would also be two diesel options, both 2.0 litre four cylinders with different horsepower and torque ratings.
