Hyundai Motors India, which is the fully owned subsidiary of the Korean automobile company, Hyundai Motors, is the next largest carmaker in India after Maruti Suzuki. Hyundai India was established in 1996. The first Hyundai car came out in 1998. Ever since, Hyundai has done very well in every segments in which it had presence. Hyundai has several best selling cars like Santro, i20, i10, Getz, Grand i10, Xcent, Verna, Accent and the like in its fleet. Among these top sellers, certain models like Santro, i20, i10 and Verna are the most preferred Hyundai models in India.
Hyundai had introduced the Elite i20 in the Indian market in 2014. It has replaced the earlier model, i20 in India. Here, the Elite i20 is placed as a premium hatchback between the Grand i10 and Xcent. The car saw huge number of pre-bookings and even after the launch, it has done well. In fact, was named as one of the top five best sellers in India for the first quarter of this year.

This car made its global debut in India, which shows that Hyundai consider India as one of the important markets in the world. The Elite i20 is the first Hyundai car to be launched in India with the latest Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. This fresh global design language renders a European look to the car.
However, other than the cosmetic changes, the Elite i20 has not undergone an engine upgrade. Hence, it still runs on the same engines on duty in the earlier editions of the car. As such, an 1197 cc, 4-cylinder, 16-valve 81.8 bhp 114Nm engine propels the Elite i20 also. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. The diesel engine of Elite i20 is a 1.4L 1396 cc, four-cylinder, 16-valve, U2 CRDi 88.7bhp 220 Nm unit, which is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. It is expected to improve the overall fuel efficiency and performance.
Elite i20 is not offered in automatic option. However, both petrol and diesel variants come five trims each – Era, Magna, Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta. The interiors are exceptional and offer huge space for comfortable travel. It also comes with a large boot space of 285-liter to hold the luggage of the whole family.
Surprisingly, Hyundai has not offered certain safety features like airbags for all passengers in the Elite i20. Hence, the safety features are not at par with the earlier versions. Despite that, the Elite i20 is a good car that offers a good drive.
