The Audi R8 has really been tested over time and still looked quite modern compared back to when it was first released at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show. The concept model was first shown in public a decade ago and the production model has been on sale for over six years now.Although the shape of this aging mid-engine 2-passenger speed machine is still pleasing to the eye, there is definitely some ways that it can be given a more modern look. Audi is keeping the original look and feel to be sure, but bringing the design back up with the times. The early version of A8 was caught on camera sporting new front and rear fascia. The shape of the headlights and taillights have been updated, though it has to be said that the new prototype is easily recognised as an update of the original Audi R8.
Under the hood
The significant improvements will be under the metal shell. The electronic gearbox is likely to be swapped from the troublesome R-tronic sequential gearbox to the much improved S-tronic dual clutch transmission. The original R-tronic add-on has drawn its share of critics for being too slow to change gears and adding weight. The addition of the S-tronic over the R-tronic version would improve performance measurably and deliver slightly improved milage on a tank of gas.
A 6-speed manual will also an available choice, with the 430-bhp 4.2-liter V-8 engine or the optional more powerful 525-bhp 5.2-liter V-10. Either engine is expected to be a bit more powerful than with the Predeccessor.
The 2013 Audi R8 is expected to be officially debuted later in the year, quite possibly at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in September.
