(2012) Land Rover Freelander Facelift Begins Testing 2 June 2012, eagleweb @ 3:55 pm

It is more than a year now since Land Rover started assembly of the Freelander 2. It costs lesser than 40 lakh rupees and a best substitute to the Q5 and X3. After the anniversary of the assembled Freelander 2, the concept might go under the scalpel. Land Rover is actually preparing a facelift and the recent spy shots suggest modifications are going for the Freelander. Freelander 2 or Dubbed LR2, the present car will pass its 6th birthday soon (normally the time at which a substitute will be unveiled). Moreover, the Freelander face lifting is due to give the car with extended lifecycle.

The company is focused on launching its costlier, bigger models. Well, what’s new about the model? The front side is clearly different. The chrome ringed grille is placed higher up, smaller and in order with the improved headlamps. The day running lights are gleaming via the disguise. In fact, the facelift is more about flashiness and jewelry to add on what is basically an ageing design.  Land Rover has been very busy concentrating on its more costly cars i.e. launching the new Range Rover 2012, Defender, and Range Rover Sport 2013 and not to mention the Evoque.

The outer alterations of the model are restricted to a decorative tidy-up. The recent spy photos disclose a more radical cabin redesign. It looks that the plastic inside will be switched and new   electro gizmos will come too (e.g. Bluetooth compatibility and MP3). According to the sources, Land Rover is continuously working on improving its Freelander ever since its launch. The stop/start switch was included for Europe. Also, in 2011, for Freelander models marked eD4, it included the choice of 2 wheel drive.
